An online service for the evening of Maundy Thursday

Welcome to this online Seder Meal and service of Holy Communion, led by Revd Charles Sargent for the evening of Maundy Thursday. Before you begin, you might like to have ready a candle (or candles) and something to light them with, and three small glasses of wine (or drink of your choice, soft or alcoholic!), or one glass from which you can drink three times when Charles does.

Listen to a reading from Psalm 116.1-2, 12-19
Read by Lauma Kazusa, Harry and Elizabeth

Listen to the Gospel reading from Matthew 26: 26-29
Read by Judith Calver

People spiritually receive communion by saying this prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
I ask you to come spiritually into my heart.
O most merciful redeemer, friend and brother,
may I know you more clearly,
love you more dearly,
and follow you more nearly, day by day. Amen

Listen to ‘Stay with me, remain here with me’
Sung by Ginette, Peter and Esther Nye

Stay with me, remain here with me,
Watch and pray, watch and pray.

The following verses are sung above the chant:

Stay here and keep watch with me. Watch and pray!

Watch and pray not to give way to temptation.

The spirit is eager but the flesh is weak.

My heart is nearly broken with sorrow.
Remain here with me, stay awake and pray.

Father if it is possible let this cup pass me by.

Father if this cannot pass me by without my drinking it, your will be done.
