Online Worship on 26 September

In-church worship is pretty much back to normal but we aim also to continue to offer online worship here every week. This week the online service is led by Revd Dr Tony Rich

To follow today’s service just click on the arrow below and find the words below that.

In the Benefice churches we celebrate Harvest Festival today at St John the Baptist, Outwood. If you are unable to get to a Harvest Festival this year, you may like to revisit the film we made for Harvest last year which features Nicholas, Charles and Tony at Hookhouse Farm, Outwood and gives thanks for the work of our local farmers and shopkeepers: https://youtu.be/NLywC0nV9hM

Christ, whose glory fills the skies,
Christ, the true, the only light,
Sun of Righteousness, arise,
Triumph o’er the shades of night;
Dayspring from on high, be near;
Daystar, in my heart appear.

Dark and cheerless is the morn
Unaccompanied by thee;
Joyless is the day’s return,
Till thy mercy’s beams I see,
Till they inward light impart,
Glad my eyes, and warm my heart.

Visit then this soul of mine,
Pierce the gloom of sin and grief;
Fill me, radiancy divine,
Scatter all my unbelief;
More and more thyself display,
Shining to the perfect day.

Charles Wesley (1707-1788)

This is the day that the Lord has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Let us pray

Collect for the 17th Sunday after Trinity

Almighty God,
you have made us for yourself,
and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you:
pour your love into our hearts and draw us to yourself,
and so bring us at last to your heavenly city
where we shall see you face to face;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark.
Glory to you, O Lord.

The Gospel reading from Mark 9: 38 to the end
by Kay Hammond

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.

Talk
by the Revd Dr Tony Rich
In his talk, Tony also refers to the Old Testament reading that will have been used in the churches along with the Gospel. You may like to read it in Number 11: 1-15

Let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Blessing

Love is his word, love is his way,
Feasting with all, fasting alone,
Living and dying, rising again,
Love, only love, is his way.

Richer than gold is the love of my Lord:
Better than splendour and wealth.

Love is his way, love is his mark,
Sharing his last Passover feast,
Christ at the table, host to the twelve,
Love, only love, is his mark.

Richer than gold is the love of my Lord:
Better than splendour and wealth.

Love is his mark, love is his sign,
Bread for our strength, wine for our joy,
‘This is my body, this is my blood.’
Love, only love is his sign.

Richer than gold is the love of my Lord:
Better than splendour and wealth.

Love is his sign, love is his news,
‘Do this,’ he said, ‘lest you forget
all my deep sorrow, all my dear blood.’
Love, only love is his news.

Richer than gold is the love of my Lord:
Better than splendour and wealth.

Love is his news, love is his name,
We are his own, chosen and called,
Family, brethren, cousins and kin.
Love, only love is his name.

Richer than gold is the love of my Lord:
Better than splendour and wealth.

Love is his name, love is his law,
Hear his command, all who are his,
‘Love one another, I have loved you.’
Love, only love, is his law.

Richer than gold is the love of my Lord:
Better than splendour and wealth.

Love is his law, love is his word:
Love of the Lord, Father and Word,
Love of the Spirit, God ever one,
Love, only love, is his word.

Richer than gold is the love of my Lord:
Better than splendour and wealth.
