Online Service for 13 September 2026

This Sunday, 13 September, is the Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity. There are services of Holy Communion at 9:30am in St Bartholomew, Burstow, at 10am in St Mary the Virgin, Horne and at 11am in St John the Baptist, Outwood.

This week’s online service is led by Revd Steve Bishop.

All creatures of our God and King,
Lift up your voice and with us sing: alleluia, alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam,
Thou silver moon with softer gleam:
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Thou rushing wind that art so strong,
Ye clouds that sail in heaven along, O praise him, alleluia!
Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice,
Ye lights of evening, find a voice:
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Thou flowing water, pure and clear,
Make music for thy Lord to hear, alleluia, alleluia!
Thou fire so masterful and bright,
That givest us both warmth and light:
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Dear Mother Earth, who day by day
Unfoldest blessings on our way, O praise him, alleluia!
The flow’rs and fruits that in thee grow
Let them his glory also show
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Let all things their Creator bless,
And worship Him in humbleness, O praise him, alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three-in-One:
O praise him, O praise him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

St Francis of Assisi (1182-1226)
Tune: Lasst uns erfreuen, Cologne 1623

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.

This is the day that the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Introduction

Confession
Almighty God, our heavenly Father,
we have sinned against you and against our neighbour,
in thought and word and deed,
through negligence, through weakness,
through our own deliberate fault.
We are truly sorry,
and repent of all our sins.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us,
forgive us all that is past;
and grant that we may serve you in newness of life
to the glory of your name. Amen.

Absolution
Almighty God, have mercy upon you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in life eternal,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Collect for the Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity
God, who in generous mercy sent the Holy Spirit
upon your Church in the burning fire of your love;
grant that your people may be fervent
in the fellowship of the gospel
that, always abiding in you,
they may be found steadfast in faith and active in service; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Talk
by Revd Steve Bishop

The Peace
Let love be genuine,
never pay back evil for evil,
as far as it lies with you, live at peace with everyone.
The Peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.

Lord, everything in heaven and earth is yours.
All things come from you and of your own do we give you.

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Eternal God,
the light of the minds that know you,
the joy of the hearts that love you,
and the strength of the wills that serve you:
grant us so to know you that we may truly love you,
so to love you that we may truly serve you,
whose service is perfect freedom;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Lord Jesus, give us your light in our eyes,
your word on our lips,
and your love in our hearts.
Send us out in the power of your Spirit
to live and work to your praise and glory.
Amen.

Blessing

Go in peace to love and to serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.

I cannot tell how he, whom angels worship,
Should stoop to love the peoples of the earth,
Or why, as shepherd, he should seek the wand’rer,
With his mysterious promise of new birth.
But this I know, that he was born of Mary,
When Bethl’em’s manger was his only home,
And that he lived at Nazareth and laboured,
And so the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is come.

I cannot tell how silently he suffered,
As with his peace he graced this place of tears,
Or how his heart upon the cross was broken,
The crown of pain to three and thirty years.
But this I know, he heals the broken-hearted,
And stays our sin, and calms our lurking fear,
And lifts the burden from the heavy laden,
For yet the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is here.

I cannot tell how he will win the nations,
How he will claim his earthly heritage,
How satisfy the needs and aspirations
Of east and west, of sinner and of sage.
But this I know, all flesh shall see his glory,
And he shall reap the harvest he has sown,
And some glad day his sun shall shine in splendour
When he the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is known.

I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship,
When at his bidding ev’ry storm is stilled,
Or who can say how great the jubilation
When ev’ry heart with perfect love is filled.
But this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture,
And myriad, myriad human voices sing,
And earth to heav’n, and heav’n to earth, will answer:
“At last the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is King!”
