This Sunday, 22 March, is the Fifth Sunday of Lent, Passion Sunday. There are services of Holy Communion: at 9:30am in St Bartholomew, Burstow, and at 11am in St John the Baptist, Outwood; and Morning Worship at 10am in St Mary the Virgin, Horne.
This week’s online service is led by Revd Steve Bishop.
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim
till all the world adore his sacred name!
Come Christians, follow where our Saviour trod;
o’er death victorious, Christ the Son of God.
Set up the throne, that earth’s despair may cease
beneath the shadow of its healing peace:
For thy blest Cross, which doth for all atone,
creation’s praises rise before thy throne:
So let the world proclaim with one accord
the praises of our everlasting Lord.
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim
till all the world adore his sacred name!
George W Kitchin (1827-1912)
Tune: Crucifer, Sydney H Nicholson (1875-1947)
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
This is the day that the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Confession
Almighty God, our heavenly Father,
we have sinned against you and against our neighbour,
in thought and word and deed,
through negligence, through weakness,
through our own deliberate fault.
We are truly sorry,
and repent of all our sins.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us,
forgive us all that is past;
and grant that we may serve you in newness of life
to the glory of your name. Amen.
Absolution
Collect for the Fifth Sunday of Lent
Most merciful God,
who by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ
delivered and saved the world:
grant that by faith in him who suffered on the cross
we may triumph in the power of his victory;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Talk
by Revd Steve Bishop
Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
And also with you.
Lord, everything in heaven and earth is yours.
All things come from you and of your own do we give you.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
Eternal God,
the light of the minds that know you,
the joy of the hearts that love you,
and the strength of the wills that serve you:
grant us so to know you that we may truly love you,
so to love you that we may truly serve you,
whose service is perfect freedom;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Lord Jesus, give us your light in our eyes,
your word on our lips,
and your love in our hearts.
Send us out in the power of your Spirit
to live and work to your praise and glory.
Amen.
Blessing
Go in peace to love and to serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen
Christ triumphant, ever reigning,
Saviour, Master, King,
Lord of heaven, our lives sustaining,
hear us as we sing:
Yours the glory and the crown,
the high renown, the eternal name.
Word incarnate, truth revealing,
Son of Man on earth!
Power and majesty concealing
by your humble birth:
Suffering servant, scorned, ill-treated,
victim crucified!
Death is through the cross defeated,
sinners justified:
Priestly King, enthroned for ever
high in heaven above!
Sin and death and hell shall never
stifle hymns of love:
So, our hearts and voices raising
through the ages long,
ceaselessly upon you gazing,
this shall be our song:
Yours the glory and the crown,
the high renown, the eternal name.
Michael Saward (b.1932)
Tune: Guiting Power, John Barnard (b.1948)
